Let’s face it men. It is 2016 and if you have not been manscaping yet, you are probably reading this right now. Something obviously must of happened for you to have asked the question “How in the world do I shave my pubic hair?”, whether it be your girlfriend or just trying to improve your grooming routine as a whole. Regardless of what begged this question, you obviously are here to find the safest and easiest method to shave your pubic hair, so that is what we are going to show you.
For starters, let’s detail the three tools that you will need to get the job done well. Now these aren’t the only tools that you can use to shave down there, but these are just the ones that we recommend by far:
What You`ll Need To Shave Your Pubic Hair
A body groomer: A body groomer differs from an electric shaver and a beard trimmer in that it is solely focused on doing exactly what the name states, grooming the body. The body mainly includes your chest, back, legs, and of course the pubic area. The technical reason why these differ from other electric trimmers and shavers is that they are designed to follow the contours of the body, not the face.
Think of it this way; Sure, you can cut your grass with scissors, but is that what they are mainly for? Of course not, that is the primary job of a lawn mower. So if you own a body groomer, congratulations because this job will be a piece of cake. If you don’t, you`ll need the following two tools.
A beard trimmer or scissors: A good beard trimmer, which you can find here, will speed the process up so much, but plain scissors work just as well ( albeit much slower ). Some beard trimmers, like the many Wahl models, have attachments that are meant to groom the body and they almost mirror the job of a body groomer. Don’t worry if your trimmer doesn’t however, as the main job is to basically trim the pubic hair down to a reasonable length for the next and most important tool to finish the job.
A razor and shaving cream: It does not matter if you use a disposable, a cartridge, or a DE safety razor. You simply need to have a razor and one of those foaming shaving creams to get a super smooth shave if that is what you are going for.
Now that you know the tools you`ll need, let’s get right into the method. We recommend that you do this in the shower, as it is very easy to clean afterwards with the cut hair being wet and gathering on the drain. You can do this outside the shower, but you will have some difficulty not making an incredible mess so if you choose that route make sure that you are able to lay something down to catch the hairs that fall.
Step By Step Guide On Safely Shaving Your Pubic Area
Step 1: Get in the shower and start trimming with the water off:
You want to get this part right so the process goes smoothly. First, hop in the shower but keep the water off. We are assuming that most of you have never done this, or have long and unruly hair down there, so the first step is to get that hair trimmed down.
Regardless of what you are using, this step is very simple. Safely grab the ends of your pubic hair, and slowly start trimming them down and down until you are left with about a 1/2 inch of length at the least. Most beard trimmers have low length settings and can easily achieve this, and with scissors you can obviously reach that length easily.
Step 2: Wipe the cut hair off your pubic area, clean up, and take a hot shower:
This will make the overall task of cleaning much easier, so be sure to leave a trash can right outside of the shower. After the initial trim down, you can simply clean out the current mess and then wash yourself off before proceeding to take a hot shower.
Step 3: Apply shaving cream all around the pubic area, and shave with the grain:
At this point, you should turn the water off and your pubic hair should be about 1/2 inch in length or shorter. Dry your hands and pubic area and then apply shaving cream so that it potently forms into a nice lather. Then, take your razor, stretch the skin UPWARDS with your left hand at around your belly button, and start going with the grain with the razor in your right hand.
Make slow, small passes and do not press down on the razor. For most of you, with the grain means going downwards. This step requires you to be extremely gentle and calm because you do not want to cut yourself. If you are going fast, you are risking cutting yourself and it is no one else fault but your own.
Step 4: Wash the remaining shaving cream off, reapply new lather and go across the grain:
Most of you want to get a super smooth shave, and that’s fine. However, keep in mind that if you choose to make another pass that you are risking cutting your skin if you are not extremely careful. If you choose to proceed, then avoid going against the grain, but instead go across the grain.
That means go from right to left and left to right. You will want to stretch your skin to the left if you are going to the right, and vice versa so that you can really get close without obstruction from the skin. Furthermore, this will decrease your odds of cutting yourself by going against the grain while still helping you achieve a close shave.
*Avoid shaving your testicles because they are very sensitive and prone to cutting. It is just better to not even attempt this unless you have done this before and you want to do so on your own volition. In that case, we recommend using scissors and just getting the hair trimmed down to a lower length only.
Step 5: Exfoliate your skin afterwards and apply aloe vera or a facial moisturizer:
A body scrub will be perfect for exfoliating this area, however you can make one yourself using sugar and honey. Simply apply, rub your pubic area gently in circles, and rinse off.
Afterwards, you will want to apply either aloe vera or facial moisturizer because the body ones are not as sensitive and usually scented, which can promote irritation. This will ensure that your pubic area will be hydrated and also either prevent or severely reduce the dreaded itch that comes after shaving down there. Some people use baby oil or even baby powder, but we found that aloe vera or a good moisturizer is much better at preventing itch and healing the skin.
So that’s it. If you got this far, you should have safely and potently shaved your pubic area with no complications. This may take some practice and experience to become flawless, however it is not a very daunting task as it may seem to some. If you are careful and take the necessary precautions to prepare, you should have no problem getting the job done well.
